US President Donald Trump has said that the US is ‘very close’ to reaching a nuclear deal with Iran, and Tehran has agreed to ‘some’ terms.
According to the British news agency ‘Reuters’, the US president said that we are having very serious talks with Iran for long-term peace. During his visit to the Gulf country in the Middle East, he said that we are close to reaching a deal on the issue of Iran.
He said that there are two ways to stop Iran, one is a very good way to talk, the other is violence and I don’t want to do it in any other way.
An Iranian source familiar with the talks said that there are still ‘gaps’ to be filled in the talks with the US.
Fresh talks between Iranian and US negotiators to resolve disputes over Iran’s nuclear program ended in Amman on Sunday, with more talks planned.
While both Tehran and Washington have said they prefer diplomacy to resolve the decades-long nuclear dispute, they are divided on several red lines that negotiators will have to ignore to reach a new deal and avoid future military action.
Iran’s president responded on Tuesday to Trump’s remarks, in which he called Tehran the “most destructive force” in the Middle East.
Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga said that “Trump thinks he can threaten us with sanctions, that he (the US) is the cause of all the crimes and regional instability,” and that he “wants to create instability inside Iran.”
US officials have publicly stated that Iran must stop enriching uranium, a position that Iranian officials have called a “red line,” and have said that they will not give up the right to enrich uranium, but that reducing its level for civilian use could be considered.
Iranian officials have also said that they are ready to reduce the amount of highly enriched uranium they have stockpiled, uranium that is enriched beyond what is normally needed for civilian purposes (nuclear energy production).
Officials have said that they will not accept uranium stocks below the amount agreed upon in the 2015 agreement with world powers, which Trump withdrew from.
Iranian sources said that Iran is ready to make what it considers a concession, the problem is that the US is not ready to lift major sanctions, Western sanctions have had a severe impact on the Iranian economy.
In this regard, regarding the reduction of enriched uranium stored specifically, one source noted that Tehran wants it to be reduced in several stages, to which the US does not agree.
