Veteran Bollywood actresses Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit had revealed years ago on the Indian talk show Koffee with Karan why they chose to marry outside the film industry.
Madhuri Dixit married Dr. Shriram Nene, a cardiovascular surgeon, in 1999. On the other hand, Juhi Chawla got married to businessman Jay Mehta in 1995.
During the show, host Karan Johar asked both actresses why, despite working with several top Bollywood stars, they chose to marry men outside the film industry.
In response, Madhuri said, “I worked a lot with Shah Rukh and Salman, and only did two films with Aamir. But when it came to a decision like marriage, I didn’t see any of them that way. My husband is my hero.”
Juhi Chawla, meanwhile, shared that she was deeply touched by the flowers, cards, and gifts Jay Mehta used to give her. She added, “I also had this thought — if my husband had been an actor like me, spending time in front of the mirror doing makeup, I probably wouldn’t have been able to handle it.”
She further explained, “As an actor, you’re fully consumed by the profession, so I couldn’t even imagine marrying someone like that. I was very clear on that.”
