Pakistan Receives $1.2 Billion IMF Tranche

Pakistan has received a $1.23 billion tranche from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The State Bank of Pakistan confirmed the receipt of a $1.23 billion IMF tranche, saying the IMF had released the money as the second tranche of the EFF loan program.

The State Bank statement indicated that the IMF review mission had recommended the release of the tranche after reviewing Pakistan’s economy. The IMF’s Executive Board approved the release of the money on May 9. The second tranche will be added to the foreign exchange reserves on May 16, 2025.

Separately, sources say that negotiations between Pakistan and the IMF will begin today via video link, during which the Pakistani government will consult with the IMF on the budget for the new fiscal year, and the targets for the 2025-26 budget will be determined through mutual consultation.

According to sources, the government will continue economic reforms under the IMF program, and an IMF delegation is likely to visit Pakistan next week. The IMF visit to Pakistan has been postponed for a week.
