WhatsApp is reportedly working on new privacy-focused features for its calling functionality. According to WABetaInfo, a platform that closely tracks WhatsApp updates, the popular messaging app is testing a mute option for voice calls and a disable video feature for video calls—both directly accessible from the call notification screen.
These enhancements are part of the latest WhatsApp beta release for Android devices. While currently limited to testing, they are anticipated to roll out more broadly in the near future.
The report highlights that when users receive a voice call, they’ll see a new mute button in the notification area. This allows them to pick up the call while automatically keeping their microphone muted. It’s a convenient feature for users in noisy settings or those who prefer to avoid being heard immediately after answering.
In the case of video calls, WhatsApp is introducing the option to turn off the camera before accepting the call. This change gives users greater control over their privacy—especially when receiving calls from unfamiliar contacts—so they can decide whether or not to enable video after assessing the caller.
Additionally, WhatsApp is developing a feature that will let users send emoji reactions during video calls. This interactive element will allow participants to express themselves without speaking, enhancing engagement without disrupting the conversation.
