The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially decided to include cricket in the Olympics for the first time in 128 years.
According to media reports, cricket will be played in the T20 format at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with six men’s and six women’s teams participating. However, Pakistan’s participation will depend on its ICC T20 International ranking.
Currently, Pakistan is ranked 7th in the ICC T20I rankings, while only the top 4 teams will be eligible to compete in the Olympics.
The current top four men’s T20 teams are:
- India
- Australia
- New Zealand
- England
So far, there is no official deadline announced for qualification for the 2028 Olympics. However, if Pakistan wants to participate, it must secure a spot in the top 4 of the ICC T20I rankings.
If they fail to qualify, Pakistan will have to wait another four years for the next Olympic opportunity.
