Lahore – The Punjab government has made it mandatory for various types of constructions and industries to install rainwater harvesting systems as part of a new sustainability and water conservation initiative.
Rainwater Collection Now a Requirement for Educational Institutions and Public Transport Stands
According to the official notification, all educational institutions, bus stands, and wagon terminals must also have systems in place to collect and store rainwater.
Industries and Buildings Where Rainwater Systems Are Now Mandatory
The new policy applies to a wide range of sectors. The following industries and facilities are required to install rainwater harvesting systems:
– Poultry farms
– Fish farms
– Petroleum refineries
– Textile industries
– Garment units
– Food processing industries
– Flour mills
– Rice mills
– Ghee and oil mills
– Petrol pumps
– Cement plants
Additionally, it is now compulsory for:
– Sugar mills
– Chemical industries
– Pharmaceutical companies
– Paper mills
– Fertilizer plants
– Airports
– Housing societies
– Commercial buildings
– Hotels
– Marriage halls
Construction Approval Now Linked to Rainwater Storage System
As per the Punjab government notification, approval for new construction projects will be conditional on the inclusion of a rainwater harvesting system. The directive is effective immediately.
