Islamabad: Pakistan has rejected reports that it has stepped back from efforts to ease tensions between Iran and the United States. The Foreign Office said Islamabad remains committed to dialogue, diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said in a weekly briefing that there is concern about renewed tension between Iran and the US, Pakistan is keeping a close eye on the current regional situation, Pakistan has urged the parties to show restraint.
Tahir Hussain Andrabi said that Islamabad should continue to implement the Memorandum of Understanding, Pakistan believes in dialogue to resolve issues, the Iran-US conflict is not in anyone’s interest, Pakistan believes in easy trade and oil supply through the Strait of Hormuz.
He said that the countries of the Global South are also being affected by the unusual situation in the Strait of Hormuz. The solution to all disputes lies in negotiations and diplomacy. There is no truth in the impression that Pakistan has given up the mediation process. Although the current situation is increasing tensions, eventually the parties will have to return to the negotiating table.
He added that the Islamabad MoU provides a strong foundation for the promotion of peace, mutual respect and shared prosperity in the region. Although the implementation of this MoU faces some challenges, Pakistan will continue to encourage all relevant parties to end violence and resume technical-level negotiations in accordance with the Pak-Qatar Joint Declaration and MoU of June 22, 2026.
The spokesperson said that the current situation is particularly affecting developing countries. Pakistan is well aware of the negative impact on global energy supply, trade, food security and other economic sectors. It is hoped that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will return to normal soon and safe, free and uninterrupted passage of ships will be ensured.
Tahir Andrabi said that during the ongoing tension in the region, Pakistan has maintained continuous diplomatic contacts with key regional and international partners to reduce tensions, promote dialogue and pave the way for peaceful resolution of conflicts.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said that Pakistan is trying to provide relief to the humanitarian needs in Afghanistan. Pakistan has sent 45 trucks of humanitarian aid, however, Afghanistan is refusing to allow them.
He said that no ice has melted on the issue of Afghanistan yet, until Afghanistan stops supporting terrorists and terrorism, this ice cannot melt, to become a member of the SCO, Afghanistan should have diplomatic relations with the member states.
Regarding Pakistan’s accusation of cross-border terrorism in the joint statement with Japan and India, the Foreign Office has said that Pakistan has issued a demarche to the Japanese ambassador, Pakistan has raised this issue with Japan at the diplomatic level.
He said that Japan has no policy shift regarding Pakistan, India always insists on including this in its joint statement.
He further said that the annual bilateral consultation between Pakistan and Portugal was also held in Islamabad yesterday, the two countries discussed further expanding bilateral relations and increasing cooperation in various fields.
In response to a question, Tahir Andrabi said that there are contacts between Pakistan and China at all levels and Pakistan considers the safety of all Chinese citizens and staff in the country as its responsibility.
To a question regarding the child sexual abuse case in the UK, he said that Pakistan strongly condemns this crime, however, it is an internal matter of the UK. Shabbir Hussain is a British citizen, he was also raised in the UK, so the Pakistani government has no connection with this case.
The Foreign Office spokesperson also condemned the filing of chargesheets by the Indian National Investigation Agency against Hurriyat leaders in occupied Kashmir and said that India is trying to suppress the Hurriyat leadership through politically motivated cases and fake trials, however, the Kashmiri people cannot be deprived of their right to self-determination.
He also said that India has not been able to present any evidence regarding the Pahalgam incident so far, although Pakistan had offered cooperation in the investigation, India is busy raising political slogans and sensationalizing.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said that the issue of occupied Kashmir should be resolved in accordance with UN resolutions.
Pakistan issues demarche to Japanese ambassador, protests joint statement
Pakistan has issued a demarche to the Japanese ambassador over the allegation of cross-border terrorism in the joint statement of Japan and India regarding Pakistan.
According to Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi, the Japanese ambassador was summoned and a formal protest was recorded.
The spokesperson said that there has been no change in Japan’s policy towards Pakistan, while India always insists on including unilateral points in such joint statements.
