Jeddah: Saudi Arabia and Canada have jointly condemned the attacks on merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that they threaten global shipping, energy security and regional stability. The two countries also called for safe and uninterrupted maritime navigation through the strategic waterway.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met in Jeddah, in which a joint statement was issued condemning the attacks on merchant ships.
The joint statement said that the attacks pose a serious threat to global shipping, energy supplies and international law, that the attacks will increase tensions in the region and undermine diplomatic efforts.
The statement urged the parties to ensure safe and unhindered navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The joint statement by Saudi Arabia and Canada said that Pakistan and Qatar appreciate the efforts of the United States and Iran to reduce tensions and reach an agreement.
