Srinagar: 10 years have passed since the killing of Burhan Wani, a commander of the militant group Hizbul Mujahideen, in Indian-administered Kashmir. His death triggered widespread protests and remains a significant event in the region’s modern history.

Burhan Muzaffar Wani started the freedom struggle against Indian occupation in October 2010 at the age of 15 and gave a new style to the freedom struggle by confronting Indian propaganda through social media.

This freedom fighter, who woke up eight lakh Indian occupation forces, was martyred on July 8, 2016. As soon as the news of the martyrdom of Burhan Muzaffar Wani and his two companions spread, millions of Kashmiris took to the streets.

10 years have passed since the martyrdom of Burhan Wani, this day will always live in the memories of the Kashmiri people. Burhan Muzaffar Wani’s martyrdom gave the Kashmir freedom movement a new energy and determination.

Burhan Wani chose the path of resistance despite fear, coercion and constant pressure from the Indian occupation forces. Understanding the importance of the digital age, Burhan Wani made social media a means of expressing the Kashmiri narrative.

The main purpose of the sacrifices of Burhan Muzaffar Wani and thousands of other Kashmiri martyrs was the struggle for the people’s right to self-determination.
