Pak-India Hotline Active Amid Tensions, Ceasefire Expected to Remain: DG ISPR

Rawalpindi: The spokesperson for Pakistan’s armed forces, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has expressed optimism that the ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India will remain intact.

In an interview with an American newspaper, DG ISPR stated that communication lines between the two nations are open. “The hotline between Pakistan and India is functional, and we expect the ceasefire to continue,” he remarked.

He revealed that following four days of missile strikes and aerial confrontations, senior military officials from both countries maintained dialogue via the hotline. He emphasized Pakistan’s transparency regarding the human and material losses caused by Indian strikes and expressed hope that India has also acted with similar honesty. “We believe continued communication will help preserve calm along the border,” he added.

Interview with Turkish News Agency

Earlier, during an interview with a Turkish news outlet, General Chaudhry said that Pakistan is currently among the nations most affected by terrorism. “Since January 2024, we’ve witnessed over 3,700 terrorist incidents,” he disclosed, holding India responsible for supporting and encouraging such attacks.

According to the DG ISPR, in the past 17 months, 3,896 people have lost their lives in acts of terrorism, including 2,582 civilians and members of the security forces.

He also commented on the situation in Kashmir and internal affairs within India, stating: “Whatever is happening in Kashmir or inside India is their internal matter, but it’s important to remember that Kashmir is a globally recognized dispute.”

Warning to India

General Chaudhry firmly stated that while Pakistan is a peace-loving nation, it will respond decisively if provoked. “Let’s be clear—India is not the United States, and Pakistan is not Afghanistan. Nor is India Israel, or Pakistan Palestine. Pakistan will not bow to Indian aggression,” he said.

He stressed that the sooner India recognizes this reality, the better it will be for both regional and global peace. Commenting on the incident in Pahalgam, he noted that India has failed to provide any concrete evidence, yet continues to use such events to justify its actions under the guise of counterterrorism.

He also mentioned the attack on the Jaffar Express, stating that the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) openly sought support from India. “Certain Indian leaders, politicians, and retired military officials have voiced support for the BLA,” he added.

Downing of Indian Fighter Jets

Regarding recent military escalations, General Chaudhry claimed that during the latest hostilities, Pakistan successfully downed five Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft. “The world knows this happened, but New Delhi refuses to acknowledge it,” he said.
