Hardworking Pakistani Farmers Can Save Economy from “Tariff War”: Khurram Nawaz Gandapur

Lahore (9 April 2025): Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s Secretary General, Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, has emphasized that the country’s hardworking farmers can play a pivotal role in safeguarding Pakistan’s economy from the ongoing global “Tariff War.” As nations worldwide engage in a fierce battle over trade tariffs, Gandapur believes that Pakistan’s economic future hinges on reducing reliance on imported goods. The economies of countries that depend less on imports will emerge stronger in the wake of this global trade conflict.

In a statement made on April 9, 2025, Gandapur highlighted the urgency of focusing on domestic production to secure economic stability. He called for a nationwide “Made in Pakistan” movement, urging the business community to support this initiative. Strengthening the manufacturing sector, improving the business environment for foreign investors, and implementing reforms to make energy more affordable were among the key measures proposed by Gandapur. Additionally, he stressed the importance of creating a fair taxation system and modernizing the country’s administrative framework to root out corruption.

Gandapur further pointed out that Pakistan is endowed with valuable natural resources, including vast reserves of minerals, fertile lands, and a dedicated workforce. With better management and the application of modern technologies, Pakistan can become a vital player in the global market. He also emphasized the need to improve law and order within the country to ensure a stable environment for investment and growth.

Focusing on agriculture, Gandapur noted that the immediate priority should be to bolster the sector to stabilize Pakistan’s economy. This includes the construction of new water reservoirs, implementing effective water management practices, and increasing reliance on modern agricultural technologies. By doing so, Pakistan can reduce its dependency on foreign imports and become self-sufficient in food production.

In addition to agriculture, Gandapur urged the government to create a conducive environment for businesses by making energy sources more affordable, improving governance, and building investor confidence. He pointed out that Pakistan’s natural resources, such as its seas, green fields, mountains, and mineral wealth, hold immense potential. With proper management, the country could not only reduce its dependence on foreign imports but could also become an indispensable part of the global supply chain.

As the world grapples with the ongoing tariff wars, Gandapur’s call to action for a self-reliant, resilient Pakistan could provide the much-needed solutions to secure a prosperous future.
