The Regional Transport Ministers Conference is very important for promoting bilateral and regional connectivity, as rapid changes are taking place in the global transport and connectivity system, says Shahbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that promoting regional connectivity will prove to be a precursor to economic and trade revolution.

Addressing the Regional Transport Ministers Conference 2025, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that it is a very important moment that we have all gathered here today for a useful and meaningful dialogue, so that ways to further strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations in various sectors can be considered.

He said that Pakistan has historically been a hub through which cultures, traditions, goods and creative ideas of different nations have been exchanged, from the ancient highway to today’s Belt and Road Initiative.

The Prime Minister said that our region has always been a hub of opportunities and connectivity, and the changing geopolitical situation and the growing importance of the economy have breathed new life into these ancient corridors.

He said that the Regional Transport Ministers Conference is very important for promoting bilateral and regional connectivity, as the global transport and connectivity system is undergoing rapid changes, Pakistan is committed to promoting economic cooperation and development in the region by adapting itself to these changes.

Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan is entering the second phase of the Economic Corridor, our region is working as a hub of the Belt and Road Initiative, while the coastal strip of Gwadar and the Karachi port are part of the Maritime Silk Road, which has further increased the importance of ancient trade routes.

He added that Pakistan is working on the Trans-Afghan, Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul Railway Corridor, which will revolutionize the economic and trade field along with increasing regional connectivity.

He said that cooperation in trade, economy and energy will usher in a new era. Today’s data is associated with technical integration. In the digital era, connectivity is not limited to roads, railways or air routes. Pakistan is investing in digital infrastructure. Providing training to the young generation according to the requirements of the modern era is a priority.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has appreciated the services of polio workers for the eradication of polio and said that thanks to their hard work and government initiatives, polio will soon be eradicated from Pakistan.

According to the official news agency APP, the Prime Minister expressed these views while addressing a ceremony held on Friday to mark World Polio Eradication Day.

Federal Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication Ayesha Raza Farooq, officials of organizations providing assistance for polio eradication and selected polio workers from across the country were also present on the occasion.

The Prime Minister commended the efforts of the Federal Health Minister, relevant authorities and international partners for polio eradication and said that they are committed to completely eradicating polio from the country.

He paid tribute to the courage, dedication and passion of polio workers and said that sometimes they are risking their lives to serve in difficult conditions and areas for polio eradication. Thanks to their efforts, polio will be eradicated from Pakistan soon. The Prime Minister said that he thanked the polio workers on behalf of himself, the entire nation and the government.

He said that organizing a ceremony on Polio Eradication Day is a manifestation of the government’s commitment to preventing this disease. He said that great Pakistanis who are working hard to eradicate polio have dedicated their lives for the country. He especially thanked all the partners including WHO, UNICEF, Bill Gates Foundation and Saudi Arabia who are spending huge amounts of money to eradicate polio from Pakistan.

Earlier, the Prime Minister distributed shields to polio workers who have rendered outstanding services in the fight against polio. These included polio workers from all provinces and areas of the country, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
