Lahore: Founder and Patron-in-Chief of Minhaj-ul-Quran Movement, Sheikh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, while discussing the growing importance of social media and its ethical requirements, said that social media is a powerful medium of expression that can promote both good and evil, therefore it should be used with high moral values, truth and responsibility. He was talking to Minhaj Youth League officials yesterday.

Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri said that in the present era, social media has become an effective tool for shaping public opinion, educating, inviting and reforming society. If it is used for positive and constructive purposes, it can play a key role in promoting knowledge, awareness and peace, whereas irresponsible and immoral use gives rise to social deterioration, hatred and chaos.
Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri stressed that social media users should verify news or information before sharing it because fake news and negative propaganda affect not only individuals but also the entire society.

He said that Islam teaches us to speak the truth, be trustworthy and protect the honor and dignity of others and these principles also apply to the use of social media.

Addressing the youth, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that they should use social media for knowledge, research, character building and positive dialogue instead of wasting time, character assassination and pointless debate. He said that promoting digital ethics is the most important need of the hour.

He added that promoting decency, tolerance and respect on social media is the foundation of a civilized and peaceful society. Presenting differences of opinion in a polite manner and avoiding hateful attitudes is the moral responsibility of every individual.
