Rawalpindi: Former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief General Faiz Hameed has been sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment.
According to the Public Relations Department of the Pakistan Army (ISPR), the Field General Court Martial sentenced Faiz Hameed to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The ISPR said that the Field General Court Martial process was initiated against former Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed under the Pakistan Army Act and the process of the Field General Court Martial continued for 15 months.
According to the ISPR, action was taken against the accused on 4 charges, the charges include involvement in political activities, violation of the Official Secrets Act, misuse of powers and government resources, and causing undue harm to the concerned persons.
The ISPR said that after a long and laborious legal process, the accused has been found guilty on all charges, and the sentence given by the court will be implemented from December 11, 2025.
The ISPR said that the Field General Court Martial fulfilled all legal requirements and the accused was provided with all legal rights, including the selection of a team of lawyers for his defense.
The ISPR said that the cases of the accused’s collusion with political elements, political chaos and instability are being looked into separately.
It should be noted that Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed was appointed as DG ISI and was also the Corps Commander Peshawar.
It may be recalled that former DG ISI Lt. Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed was taken into custody on August 12, 2024, after the Supreme Court ordered the initiation of a court of inquiry in the city.
A day after Faiz Hameed was taken into custody, former Prime Minister Imran Khan claimed in court that ‘the entire drama of Faiz Hameed is being done to take me to a military court, an attempt is being made to make Faiz Hameed a promissory note witness against me.’
The ISPR had said regarding Faiz Hameed’s detention that in light of the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s decision, disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt. Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed under the Pakistan Army Act.
The Pakistan Army spokesperson had said that several violations of the Pakistan Army Act have been proven against General (retd) Faiz Hameed after his retirement, on which he was taken into custody and a field general court martial process has been initiated against him.
It should be noted that DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif had explained the details of the army’s self-accountability system in a press conference on May 7, 2024.

Rana Sanaullah said that there is a strong system of strict action against those who violate accountability and discipline in the army, if Faiz Hameed was involved in political activities, he could not have done this alone, a politician was with him.
He said that the PTI leadership was supporting him, action should also be taken against the politicians who were involved. Rumors of Faiz Hameed’s involvement in the May 9 incident have been around for a long time, and the people who were involved with him can also be tried in a military court.
