ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed to prepare now to avoid any loss of life and property in the monsoon next year and said that the Ministry of Climate Change, the Ministry of Planning and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) should work with the provincial governments to formulate an integrated plan regarding climate change.
According to a statement issued by the Media Wing of the Prime Minister’s Office, a review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the government’s strategy to prevent the harmful effects of climate change.
The Prime Minister directed in the meeting that preparations should be made now to avoid losses from monsoon next year, the Ministry of Climate Change, the Ministry of Planning and the NDMA should work with the provincial governments to formulate an integrated plan regarding climate change.

He also directed to prepare for holding a meeting of the National Water Council to formulate a national plan for better water management.
The Prime Minister ordered that the proposed short-term plan be implemented immediately.
He said that Pakistan is a developing country, every third year a significant portion of GDP has to be spent on the adverse effects of climate change, and precious and limited resources are used to prevent the adverse effects of climate change instead of development.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan, which has a negligible role in climate change, is in the grip of the adverse effects of climate change.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Dr. Mosaddiq Malik, Attaullah Tarar and relevant senior officials.
The meeting was briefed on global projections of indicators regarding monsoon next year. The meeting was briefed on short, medium and long-term plans by the Ministry of Climate Change.
The Prime Minister approved the short-term plan and directed to start its implementation immediately.
