LAHORE: Prof Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, President of Minhaj-ul-Quran International and an economic expert, has emphasized that the welfare of the individual is paramount in an Islamic economy.
He stresses that the upcoming budget must focus on the education and health sectors, reiterating that poverty inevitably leads to unrest and ignorance.
Speaking at a special session regarding the upcoming budget, he said that a state can revolutionize its citizens’ lives by providing them quality education and healthcare facilities. “Education and health are essential for both the rich and the poor.
While the affluent can afford these services from the private sector due to their financial stability, the poor and middle-class families often find themselves without sufficient resources to sustain themselves after spending on education and healthcare,” he opined.
Dr Qadri pointed out that despite the existence of thousands of state-run schools and hospitals, which receive ample public money for the provision of free medicines, salaries and perks of doctors, and medical staff, the average person often fails to benefit from these public facilities.
This is largely due to a lack of conscientiousness, a weak sense of responsibility, and an inadequate system of checks and balances, he said. He asserted that the state can ensure public resources reach the common person by curbing corruption and inefficiency and by making its administrative mechanisms more active and accountable.
“If the state provides adequate facilities in education and health, the average person could save thousands of rupees monthly, significantly improving their standard of living.”
