Russia should play role to reduce Pak-India tension, Yousaf Raza Gilani

Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that Russia should play an effective role between Pakistan and India to reduce Pak-India tension.

Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani met with Chairperson of Federation Council of Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko in Moscow. Bilateral relations, parliamentary diplomacy, peace, trade, economy and investment were discussed in the meeting.

According to the Media Directorate of Senate Secretariat, Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, who is on a visit to Russia, met with Chairperson of Federation Council of Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko in Moscow. Bilateral relations, parliamentary diplomacy, peace, trade, economy and investment were discussed during the meeting.

Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said that Pakistan has always been a supporter of negotiations and diplomacy to resolve all disputes, and despite provocations, Pakistan preferred restraint and negotiations for the preservation of peace in the region.

He said that India should play an effective role between Russia, Pakistan and India to reduce tensions.

Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said that relations between Pakistan and Russia are moving in a positive direction, strong relations are important not only for mutual prosperity but also for a secure and stable region.

He said that he congratulates the Russian leadership on the 80th anniversary of Victory Day.

Valentina Matvienko said that bilateral relations between the two countries reached new heights during the tenure of Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani as Prime Minister and Chairman.

During the meeting, the parties expressed interest in promoting cooperation under the parliamentary memorandum of understanding.

Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in the context of geopolitical tensions and said that Pakistan desires peace, stability and rule of law in South Asia.

He said that Pakistan has rejected Indian allegations on occupied Kashmir and demanded an independent investigation. Pakistan condemns the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty which could pose a threat to the water security of the region.

Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said that Pakistan has paid a heavy price in the war on terrorism, Pakistan is a frontline state against terrorism and looks forward to global solidarity.

The Chairman Senate said that there is a need to accelerate the activities of the Friendship Group established in both countries to promote mutual relations.
