Will consider tampering with Indus Waters Treaty as an act of war: Ishaq Dar

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that tampering with the Indus Waters Treaty will be considered an act of war.

Giving an interview to the American media, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that due to the escalation of tension and our defensive response, some countries, especially the United States, realized that the next step could be very dangerous and destructive.

Ishaq Dar said that after talking to Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar, Secretary Rubio spoke to me. This telephone conversation took place on May 10 when our operation was almost complete. Secretary Rubio said that India is now ready to stop. On this, Rubio was assured that if India does not take action again, we will not do the same. The US Secretary of State assured that if we were willing to stop the war, India would do the same and that is what happened.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that everyone had seen what happened to the Indian Air Force, when we responded by firing drones and missiles after 3 days, they realized how much damage had been done to them, they realized that they had miscalculated.

Ishaq Dar further said that the real cause of instability and threats in this region is the Kashmir issue, this is not just our position but an internationally recognized dispute and in this matter Trump’s statement that he is ready to play a role is very important.

He said that we have always been available for comprehensive talks with India, this is a bilateral matter, we cannot clap with one hand, we cannot solve it alone, it is in everyone’s interest that such problems should be avoided for too long.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that Pakistan has made it clear that it will consider tampering with the Indus Waters Treaty as an act of war, if the water is diverted or blocked, we will consider it an act of war.
