Sectarianism has caused irreparable harm to the Ummah: Professor Dr. Hassan Qadri

Young scholars should cultivate tolerance, restraint and moderation in religious attitudes, says Supreme Council Chairman

Lahore: Chairman of the Supreme Council of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Professor Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, while talking to the teachers of the College of Sharia and Islamic Sciences, said that Minhaj-ul-Quran is a global mission to promote unity of the Ummah and eliminate sectarianism. Sectarianism has caused irreparable harm to the Ummah. Teach teachers, young religious scholars and students to cultivate tolerance, restraint, moderation and tolerance in their attitudes.

He said that the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to learn religion directly from him and listen to his commands, despite this, different opinions arose in understanding. In case of differences of opinion, the companions would without hesitation appear before the Crowned One of the Universe and seek guidance, and he (peace be upon him) would teach them with explanation and detail. Therefore, do not stop students pursuing Islamic studies from asking questions, but do teach them that good comes from asking questions with the intention of learning religion. When we ask questions to criticize others or prove them ignorant and continue the discussion, the result is manifested in the form of a dispute. Difference of opinion is not a bad thing, but turning disagreement into enmity is a bad thing.

He said that differences in issues are a natural process, issues open new doors for reform, education and understanding, however, it is not appropriate that we adopt a derogatory attitude towards other predecessors while following the Imams of our choice. If this one point is understood, mutual disputes will end. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said, “The differences of my companions are a mercy for you.” Because the companions used to ask questions with the intention of learning, therefore, with every question, scientific knots were solved. In religious matters, always ask questions to learn.

He said that if religious scholars consider the Quran and Sunnah as the final word, then all kinds of disputes will end.
